Following our first post, we continue our series on ‘green improvements’ provided by local authorities to landlords and tenants. 

This post covers the next 20 local authorities – from Blaby to Bromsgrove.  


Blaby offers a Home Support Grant which is for funding to help applicants remain in their home or make improvements that they may otherwise be unable to do, including energy-efficient work. The council also have an energy advice page to help people reduce costs, which can be found here.

Blackburn with Darwen

Blackburn offer a Green Homes Grant if a property has an EPC rating below band D. They also have a page with advice and local information here


Blackpool council is part of the Cosy Homes in Lancashire (CHiL) scheme.   There are a number of grants available which can be found here.

Blaenau Gwent

Blaenau Gwent council have a scheme offering energy efficiency improvements for the lowest grade EPC rating homes within the borough. This was established in 2018, however, the grant scheme still appears active. Information on the grant can be found here


Bolsover did offer a Green Homes Grant but this has now closed and we cannot find any active grants. There is an advice service here.


Bolton has an information page here but the only scheme listed is from E.on.  


Boston council have an Energy advice page that also has various grants and support relating to energy improvements which can be found here.


Bournemouth offers grants towards loft and cavity wall insulation through the Local Energy Advice Programme (LEAP). Information can be found here

Bracknell Forest

Bracknell offers the following grant schemes:  Green Homes Grant (subject to Government approval), Warm safe and well scheme, and as well as the Flexible home improvement loan. Information can be found here

Bradford metropolitan

Bradford offers the better homes Bradford scheme which assists private landlords and homeowners meet legal requirements. Information can be found here.  Also, there is the Bradford council home upgrade grants, which can be found here.


Braintree council offer a variety of services and funds to help improve the energy efficiency of properties, which can be found here. Note that there is a separate page that offers advice which can be found here


Breckland council offers two grants: The Enhance Grant and the Warm Homes Grant.


We could not find any information about council grant aid (although there is a reference to the now-defunct national Green Homes Grant). However, there is an advice page, as well as links to a ‘Green Doctor’ who gives low-income homeowners advice on how to reduce energy bills. 


We could not find links to any active grant scheme in Brentwood. However, they do have a page with various links to sites that offer advice and support on energy advice which can be found here


We could not find any advice pages or grant aid.  However, there is a heat scheme that will provide heat and a reduction in energy bills to properties in Caerau. 


Brighton has information about an Energy Company Obligation where energy suppliers help pay for things to improve efficiency. The page can be found here. The council also have a page with advice on how to save money on energy and water bills. 


Bristol has a page on grants or loans that homeowners can apply for regarding works, which can be found here. There is also a page here, which does not have a current scheme but which suggests residents call or email to ask whether there are any active schemes running. 


Broadland has an energy efficiency information page which can be found here with a variety of different topics including insulation, heating, renewable energy and reducing your energy bill.   But no grant aid that we could find.


Bromley has an information page with links to advice on ways to reduce your energy bill and information on solar panels here.  We could not see any grant aid.


Bromsgrove has partnered with Redditch with an energy advice service which can be found here. Bromsgrove also has an energy efficiency fund with information that can be found here.

And finally
